Harrow Asian Deaf Club held a party on Saturday to celebrate the New Year.

The Uxbridge Road club held a joint celebration of New Year and Chinese New Year.

The event was attended by John Purnell, Deputy Lieutenant of Harrow, and his wife Margaret Purnell.

The HADC committee members and volunteers wore Chinese silks and chairman, Samir Gathani, gave a presentation on the way in which the Chinese New Year is traditionally celebrated.

There was also a Chinese feast and the event ended with a fireworks display.

Asif Iqbal, president of Harrow Asian Deaf Club, said: “It was a fantastic insight into how Chinese New Year is celebrated and enabled all of us to be part of our diverse community.

“HADC believes in promoting diversity of communities and culture by hosting an exciting programme in 2013.

“From everyone at HADC, we wish you a Happy New Year and share our good wishes for good fortune and prosperity for the Chinese New Year on February 10, 2013.”
