Liberal Democrats criticise parking permit price rises in Brent

Further increases in the price of parking permits and on-street parking in Brent have come under fire.

Opposition Liberal Democrats claim Brent Borough Council's ruling Labour group intends to increase the cost of a parking permit in April, with charges already set to rise on Monday.

The group says residents will find themselves paying up to 76 per cent more for the same service.

They claimhouseholds with two low-emission cars could end up paying an extra £57 a year, while drivers will face a rise of up to 83 per cent in charges when using meters.

Liberal Democrat transport spokesman Councillor Daniel Brown said: “Once again Labour has shown its determination to gouge as much money as it can out of Brent’s hard-pressed residents.

“Labour councillors are exploiting the fact that most parking permit holders have no choice about keeping their car on the street because they don’t have a drive.

“It adds insult to injury that Labour plans to put prices up again in April 2013 – that’s two price rises in just four months.”

The Harrow Times is awaiting a comment from Brent Borough Council.
