The Liberal Democrat MP for Brent Central is calling for women to become more ‘breast aware’.

Sarah Teather MP is working with Brent breast cancer campaigner, Nicole Reece, to encourage women to learn how to check their breasts for signs of cancer.

Ms Teather said: “During our meeting, Nicole highlighted a number of key areas where action needs to be taken to make sure more women survive breast cancer.

“It is very important that all women know what the signs and symptoms of breast cancer are and how to check for them.

“Breast cancer is still the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK and an estimated 1,000 lives could be saved every year in England alone if breast cancer survival rates matched the best in Europe.”

Ms Reece added: “While more women are surviving breast cancer in the UK than ever before, thousands of women are still dying from the cancer every year.

“Greater local awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and increased access to breast screening services will make a substantial difference to survival rates.”
