Trio await deportation after Indian restaurant raid in Kenton
Three workers at an Indian restaurant are awaiting deportation after a raid by visa officials found they did not have the right to work in the UK.
Officers from the UK Border Agency raided the Chennai Sangeetha vegetarian restaurant in Kenton Road on Saturday evening to run checks on staff after receiving a tip-off.
Two Indian women, aged 23 and 31, who had overstayed their visas and a 24-year-old Indian man who was working in breach of his visa conditions were detained and are now awaiting deportation.
The restaurant could be fined up to £30,000 unless it can prove it carried out appropriate checks before hiring the staff.
It is the third raid in less than a month in the borough, with officials arresting four men in Kingsbury and Queensbury last week for allegedly helping immigrants fraudulently apply for visas.
