THE chairman of a sports group has said he is "disappointed" by a council decision to grant planning permission for a proposal to replace a leisure centre last week.

Harrow Council wants to build a new leisure centre on the site of Harrow Skatepark, in Byron Park. Harrow Leisure Centre, in Christchurch Avenue, will be knocked down once its replacement is built.

Don Goff, chairman of Harrow Sports Council, said: "I'm disappointed because the new building will be smaller, which means facilities are going to be lost.

"In this day and age when you want to think about the health of people in the borough, and with the olympics coming up as well, it's not really what you want."

It is beyond my comprehension that the Council can build brand new facilities which reduce the sports available when they might as well save their money and keep the existing site! But that would be a) money saving and b) logical.

What planet is Harrow council on? Is it too much for them to think about what the people need......

Even today, it's not always easy to book a badminton or squash court in the evenings - it's that busy. With the proposed smaller centre, it will be so much worse. Will the last person to leave Harrow please switch out the lights?
