READERS of the Harrow Times website are not convinced a local politician will make a good member of the London Assembly.

Councillor Navin Shah, a Labour member on Harrow council was elected to the Brent and Harrow seat on the assembly earlier this month.

But only 31 per cent of voters in this week's web poll said they thought Cllr Shah will make a good assembly member. In contrast 59 per cent thought he would not make a good member, and 10 per cent said they are not sure.

This week's poll asks: "Do you think London Mayor Boris Johnson will fulfil his promise to prevent the closure of tube station ticket offices?"

Boris has got to stop this madness ! How will rail staff with passes for reduced tickets manage as those are not sold in the automatic machines ?

It is interesting that Mr. Shah managed to get elected given that so few people believe he will make a good London Assembly member. Was it too much like hard work for all those people who responded to the Harrow Times poll to go to the polling station on the actual election day?

What your voters have said does not surprise me since Mr Shah lost in Harrow!

Mr Shah was elected via his own cultural group and also the residents of Brent. Shah is a self-populist who has only one agenda - himself

Logic tells me that winning 11 wards out of 21 is not losing. Like Corinne, I wonder where the people who are voting in the Harrow Times poll were on May 1st. Being responsible enough to use your vote is important rather than complain when you don't like the result. All political parties work hard to encourage people to go out and vote and it is depressing when people say they can't be bothered. Fact is Navin won through sheer hard work and will use that zeal to represent the people of Harrow and Brent

This is simply not true. Navin was elected by a wide cross-section of people from different communities. Some of his own cultural group are his worst critics and people in other communities support him just as much as his own community. Navin has promised to raise matters of interest to residents of Brent & Harrow at the GLA. Residents need to give him a chance to deliver before criticising him

Is Cllr Nana Asante looking for the deputy leadership of the sinking Labour group on the council?

The comment from Mr Meone is risible. Having known Mr Shah for over 20 years I can quite sincerely say that he is one of the most honest, hard-working and diligent local politicians one could wish to meet. That is why the people of Brent and Harrow elected him on 1 May in probably Labour's best result on a day of disasters throughout the country. Whether Mr Shah will be a good GLA representative or not is too early to say, but it won't be from lack of trying on his part. Additionally, he cannot be any worse than Bob ("Bob who?") Blackman!

Having got to know Navin as a fellow school governor and seeing his participation and delivery, I have no doubt of his intentions to work for all of Harrows diverse communities, Dev is just mud slinging. During my By-election campaighning Navin worked relenlessley with me and other party activists, the results of doubling the labour majority prove this. He is a man who has ideology and conviction and a sense of fairness which is difficult to find in people let alone in politicians. Dev is accusing Navin of looking after himself,If thats all he was interested in, Navin is an Architect would he not have pursued that? instead of engaging in local politics. Its a pity that more of the ruling party in Harrow dont think like Navin, about the welfare of the people of Harrow first and foremost.
