A move in the right direction

I refer to the London Mayor’s visit to Harrow and welcome the launch of a dedicated public transport police team which is a move in the right direction.

The principle of dedicated police teams for public transport is an extension of dedicated safer neighbourhood policing teams introduced successfully by former Mayor Ken Livingstone. I do hope that this reinforcement would help address the problems of serious crime-related incidents surrounding the Harrow Bus Station.

I am pleased that Harrow still remains statistically one of the safer areas of London but the recent incidents of a murder in Harrow Weald area and concerns of local residents about continuing problems of crime in Wealdstone and adjacent areas demonstrate that we cannot afford to be complacent.

Opposition politicians don’t get invited to such launches any longer but I’ll certainly continue to push, and push hard, the London Mayor about the new police station, funding for disabled adaptation for Harrow-on-the-Hill station and many other issues which matter to Harrow.

London Assembly Member – Brent and Harrow
