Theatre company explores the rhythm of life

Music is the food of love for theatre company MProductions as it embarks on a new show exploring, as co-artistic director Chris Cuming puts it, “the musicality of day to day life”.

“That’s the ethos of our company,” says Chris. “We might look at musical theatre, the physicality of dance or verse such as Shakespeare where the music is the rhythm and the meter.”

Chris, 20, is from Bushey and attends the Central School of Speech and Drama. His co-director, Séan Aydon, 18, from Watford is a student at The Manchester School of Theatre. The pair met at St Michael’s Catholic High School in Garston and are both members of Cassio Operatic Society. They set up MProductions two years ago.

Based at the Lincolnsfield Centre in Bushey, the company returns to Trestle Arts Base after their debut production of I love you because... with tick, tick...BOOM!

The show features the music of Jonathan Larson and is the biographical story of his journey to become a successful composer, which culminated in the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning, Broadway blockbuster RENT.

For this production, the team are using the latest computer technology.

“We have a LED screen and we’re creating the worlds of New York and SoHo through real and animated images, projections and layering.

“There’s also a premixed soundtrack, plus live singing and music from our four-piece band. It’s an onslaught to the senses,” adds Séan.

tick, tick...BOOM! runs from Thursday, August 19 to Saturday, August 21 at Trestle Arts Base, Russet Drive, St Albans at 8pm.
