Wellstones is an art and craft centre in Wellstones Road, Watford that provides learning and day opportunities for adults who are living with a range of learning disabilities.
The centre is run by Hertfordshire County Council and is one of six similar projects run through Watford Day Services. The centre is working to develop relationships and partnerships with people in the community including local businesses, schools, churches and the borough council to further the understanding of their work.
Each session provided by the centre offers users the chance to work creatively as individuals and as a group with everything from clay to paint and pastels. The aims of the sessions are to help the users develop their artistic and creative talents in a fun and relaxed way.
Councillor Collette Wyatt-Lowe, cabinet member for health and adult care, says: “It is great to see that the hard work the artists have put into creating these pieces of art will be recognised by the general public. They should all be very proud of their achievements. Our day services provide users with the support and means to try things that they wouldn’t usually get the chance to. Wellstones Workshop is a great example of that.”
The show will feature one group piece, as well as 15 ceramics and 20 individual paintings.
The exhibition runs from February 8-24 (closed during half term February 13-18), Monday and Wednesdays only from 4pm-8pm at Watford Grammar School for Girls Gallery, 6th Form Block, Lady's Close, Watford.
