Finding a perfect fitting bra can be a eureka moment in a woman's life. My friend Charlotte even phoned me after being fitted with a new bra to tell me how brilliant it was, and how she couldn't stop looking at her new figure. It was so comfortable that she left her old one in the shop's bin.

Many women fall into the 'booby-trap' by either making do with what they have or simply choosing the bra size they think they are.

Most of us still don't seek expert advice when buying a bra. We go on buying the same sized bra for years without considering whether it still fits correctly. We even fall into the trap of buying without trying.

You wouldn't dream of buying a pair of shoes without trying them on, so why do it with a bra?

Linda Quinsey, manager and bra fitter at Contessa in High Wycombe, says that help is at hand, you just have to bite the bullet and be measured by a professional.

"About 75 per cent of women we see are wearing the wrong size," explains Linda. "They tend to put on weight and lose weight but they don't change their bra sizes. As your body changes so does your bust."

Wearing the wrong size bra may not just affect your appearance. It can also affect your health. It can be responsible for problems with skin, back and posture, as well as causing the obvious aching breasts.

Contessa in High Wycombe is running an in-store promotion until September 2 to ensure your underwear fits properly.

Drop by the store and you can be measured and fitted by the professional staff, free of charge.

Linda adds that if you buy two bras from a selection of styles during the promotion, you will receive £5 discount. What more help do you need?

If you feel a bit embarrassed about bearing your bits, don't be, says Linda.

"If people are a bit embarrassed we can measure over the top of their clothes," she explains. "There's nothing to be worried about. We do this everyday and it's nothing new to us.

"When someone buys a correctly fitting bra after they have been measured, they are so pleased. Some even go out of the shop wearing them."

Linda adds: "It can really change the way the woman feels."

Common bra problems

Problem: My bra keeps riding up at the back

Answer: Your bra should be level front and back. If not then the bra isn't supporting your breasts properly. This is probably due to the underband being too large and you need to be measured.

Problem: Wrinkles on you bra

Answer: If the fabric on your bra cup wrinkles, there is most likely too much fabric which means it's too big for you. A bra should fit smoothly over your bust without excess fabric. Your cup size should be measured to ensure a smooth fit.

Problem: Bulging bust

Answer: A bulging bust creates unsightly curves in the wrong places. It will ruin your outfit, not to mention causing red marks and sore skin. Bulging busts, which create the 'four boob syndrome' are usually caused by a bra which is too small.

Problem: Digging in

Answer: Bras that dig in cause major discomfort and affect your posture. This can be caused by ill fitting underwires and straps. Ensure you have a correctly fitted bra and that straps are correctly positioned and underwires are flat against your body's contours.

Problem: Visible straps

Answer: It's important to look good as well as feel good when going out. With halter-neck, backless and strapless clothes, it is difficult to find the underwear to match. Go to a bra specialist who can tell you the correct style of bra for an outfit.
