Jack Kagan survived the Holocaust by fleeing his home town of Novogrudek and joining a group of Jewish partisans known as the Bielski Brigade, deep in the forests of Belorussia.
Next week, Jack will talk about his experiences at an event in Golders Green, during which he will also be launching his new book, We Stood Shoulder to Shoulder. It describes how the partisans fought, and how severe were the pressures against them.
After the war, Jack settled in London, working to ensure that the Jews of his town are never forgotten.
Tuesday, November 2, 7.30pm at London Jewish Cultural Centre, Ivy House, North End Road, Golders Green. Details: 020 8457 5000, www.ljcc.org.uk
