There will be an amazing mythological adventure waiting for children in Hertfordshire’s libraries this summer. Go along and find out about the Minotaur, the Unicorn and Anansi the Spider-Man. There will be mermaids, leprechauns and the Loch Ness Monster waiting to meet you!

The Summer Reading Challenge is a free activity, organised by The Reading Agency, which takes place every year during the summer holidays in libraries across the country.

The 2014 Summer Reading Challenge is called Mythical Maze.

It runs until Saturday, September 6 and you can collect a free starter’s pack from any Hertfordshire Library including mobile libraries. Children of all ages are welcome to take part.

After signing up, the challenge is to read six library books of your choice. You will be rewarded with stickers when you visit the library to talk to staff about the books you have been reading.

If you complete the challenge you will be invited to attend a special presentation ceremony to receive a medal and certificate, and will be entered into a prize draw where you could win signed books, the chance to meet a real life children’s author, or even a family ticket to Warner Bros Studios.

  • All Hertfordshire libraries are taking part including Abbots Langley, Borehamwood, Bushey, Chorleywood, Croxley Green, Kings Langley, North Watford, Oxhey, Radlett, Rickmansworth, and Watford Central, until Saturday, September 6. Details: 0300 1234 049, hertsdirect.org/libraries
