A NEW website has been set up to try and reunite former telegram messenger boys.
The site has been set up by members of the Birmingham Post Office Sport and Social club, who are keen to reunite as many of these ex-messengers as possible, some of who started work at just 14-years of age.
Roger Green, a former messenger boy, who is organising the site, said: "We started arranging reunions in the Birmingham area about four years ago, and since then it has grown and we have been in contact with more societies like ours.
"Being a messenger boy was like the apprenticeship for postmen for a long time, and we have had some people say it's the best time of their working lives.
"They were phased out in 1981, but I have had someone who is 95 now sending me his recollections, so we think there are thousands of them out there.
"It would be a real shame if all these stories were not kept for posterity."
