This week I said goodbye to Sergeant Nick Foster who has retired after completing 30 years in front line policing. Sergeant Foster has made it his business to focus on serving the people in Harrow and in particular the Kenton and West Harrow areas, in his capacity as a Safer Neighbourhoods Sergeant. Nick has worked very effectively with the Safer Neighbourhood Ward Panels, who set local policing priorities.

Please treat anyone who approaches you in the street and tries to sell you jewellery with suspicion. We have received a number of reports in recent weeks of thieves distracting their victims in order to steal gold necklaces in exchange for worthless fakes. Remember, if you see anyone acting suspiciously please call 999.

Directing resources to the areas where they are most needed

Harrow Police has introduced three daily 'Grip and Pace' meetings which take place at 10 am, 2.30 pm and 8 pm. These meetings are in addition to the regular briefings for officers and staff and are designed to ensure that we respond quickly to emerging challenges on the borough. This will enable senior managers to direct the resources of CID, Neighbourhood Policing Teams and Emergency Response Teams to the areas where they are most needed.

Building on our excellent relationship with Harrow Council

We were happy with the visit from Assistant Commissioner Simon Byrne this week. He is keen to build on the excellent relationship between Harrow Council and Harrow Police. Both Chief Executive Mike Lockwood and I were extremely pleased to discuss how to extend our work on the Harrow Neighbourhood Champions and the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). Mr Byrne and Mr Lockwood will be meeting as the relationship between Harrow Borough and Territorial Policing develops.

Hitting the ground running

I said farewell to PC Stirling Moss this week who is retiring after serving 30 years in the Metropolitan Police Service. Stirling was a member of the Royal Gibraltar Police before joining the MPS. We wish him well in the next stage of his life as he retrains to become a bus driver, for a local coach company. As his name would suggest, PC Strirling Moss is a huge motor sports fan and he will be relishing his new role and spending time with his wife and four children.

Dispersal Zones extended for a further six months

Dispersal Zones Extended I am pleased to inform you that following consultation with local residents and businesses, and with the consent of the Chief Executive of Harrow Council, Michael Lockwood, we have agreed to extend the dispersal zones in Wealdstone and Harrow town centre for a further six months until 6 October 2012.

Last weekend I was on call and had a busy night duty working across London. Part of my role was policing the Embassies' security which involved re-assessing the risk and re-deploying officers across London to other crime hot spots.

I met with PCs Chris Allcock and Ashley Shanahan this week to thank them for their good work in securing a four year prison sentence against a man for robbery. Ryan Foster of SW 11 was found guilty of robbing a 54 year old Asian woman of her gold chain, a watch and her rings in Cotman Gardens Edgware in May 2011. With the high price of gold we have seen an increase in snatches of gold chains. Please remember to : - Keep your jewellery covered when you are in public places.

Inspector Chris Paice's last tour of duty

It’s been a busy week - I have been meeting with police staff discussing the proposals from Scotland Yard regarding criminal justice administration locally. This will mean that some local police staff will be required to move to new criminal justice units, whilst other police staff in Harrow involved in criminal justice administration will perform slightly different roles. I will be meeting with staff on a regular basis as we move forward with these changes.
