Diamond Jubilee Success

Special Constable Gary Manser and Special Police Sergeant Barbara Bailey on duty in Pinner Memorial Park.
The blog comes this week from Det Supt Neil Wilson - Deputy Borough Commander. I am writing the blog this week in Chief Superintendent Babu's absence, whilst he spends some well-deserved time off with his family over the holidays.
I would like to start by saying a huge thank you to all of the officers, members of staff, special constables and volunteers on the borough who were on duty over the Diamond Jubilee weekend helping to make it the success that it was. There were many organised street parties on the borough and it was good to see communities coming together to celebrate the event. Officers were helping out at events in Pinner Memorial Park and Hatch End Broadway, which were both well supported by local residents, in spite of the inclement weather. One resident took the trouble to email me to say how much the people had appreciated the presence of Harrow officers and special constables at these events.
Despite a low level of crime reported over the weekend, we are still seeing sheds, outhouses and properties under renovation being targeted by burglars. Please ensure that any items stored in these buildings are kept safe and secured by using a strong quality lock which will help prevent burglars gaining access. Please report any suspicious activity to police by calling 999.
The annual Pinner Fair took place on Wednesday of last week and went off without incident. Only one arrest was made. A 30 year old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of Class B drugs, he spent the night in police custody and received a caution. I would like to thank Chief Inspector Pam Bannerman and all officers and PCSOs who policed the event.
Our colleagues in Hertfordshire have posted an interesting interview on You Tube with a man who has admitted to committing approximately 200 burglaries, mostly in the homes of Asian families in London and Hertfordshire, targeting gold jewellery. He said that he committed most of his burglaries between 8 am and 4 pm. He also said that he would think twice about entering a house which had a burglar alarm, where there were lights on or homes displaying a SmartWater signs. Please ensure that you follow these simple crime preventions measures. Contact your l Local residents can breath a sigh of relief thanks to Sergeant Pete Carruthers and the Harrow Weald Safer Neighbourhoods team who, with the help of Harrow Council and Paradigm Housing Association, successfully secured the eviction of a nuisance neighbour from a house in Augustine Road, Harrow Weald last week. Claudia Verbrugge aged 58 was found guilty of assaulting a neighbour and dangerous dogs offences for which she received a custodial sentence earlier this year.
Finally, the European Football Championships started this week. We will be working closely with licensees of public houses on the borough to ensure that people are able to enjoy this sporting occasion in a safe and problem-free environment.
